What you get
| Capacity | 1,000 contacts, one database, 7 statuses |
| Today list | A column that turns TRUE when a follow-up or a meeting is due today or overdue. Signed and closed deals drop off on their own. |
| Incoming call | Type the number that is ringing, the file gives you the name. A link takes you straight to that person in the database, where you set the meeting or the follow-up and add your note |
| Works in | Excel 2016 or later, Google Sheets, Excel on a phone. No macros, so no security warning. |
| Costs | Nothing. No account, no time limit, no strings. |
| Not included | It does not watch the clock for you and does not write messages. That is the paid version: 10,000 contacts, 14 statuses, a day list that keeps watch every 25 minutes across 18 scenarios, and ready SMS and email templates. One payment, no subscription. Curious what the paid file actually contains? A sample-filled copy sits online to page through, with editing switched off. Look inside the full version. |
How it compares
We downloaded each file on 27 August 2026 and read it. Dates and sizes come from the Last-Modified header the server returned. The last column was checked by looking for date formulas inside the workbook, not by reading the marketing page.
| File | Last updated | Email needed | Phone column | Flags what is due today |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CRM in Excel (this file) | 27 Aug 2026 | No | Yes | Yes, today and overdue, and closed deals drop off |
| HubSpot CRM template | 12 Jun 2020 | Yes, a form stands in front of the file | Yes | No, one cell shows the date and nothing is compared to it |
| Vertex42 CRM template | 27 May 2020 | No | Yes | No, it has a Next Contact date but every date formula in the file writes the copyright year |
| Salesflare sales funnel | 22 Jan 2025 | No | No phone column at all | No, zero date formulas in the whole file |
Two of these have not been touched since 2020. None of them works out what you owe a call on today, which is the one thing a spreadsheet has to do before it becomes a CRM rather than a list.
